BEDO Thailand PES Award 2015

Mr. Attaphol of Tipco Foods receives the Thailand PES Award 2015 from a BEDO director.
13 August 2015

The Biodiversity-based Economy Development Office (BEDO) presented the Thailand PES Award 2015 to Tipco Foods PCL and its subsidiary Aura water for their work with USAID LEAF in launching a pilot payment for ecosystem services (PES) in partnership with the Baan Pong Khrai community in the Mae Sa-Kog Ma UNESCO Man and Biosphere reserve in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Under this PES mechanism, Tipco provides financial support to the Baan Pong Khrai community for forest restoration activities that protect watershed areas around the Aura water source and factory. Another key collaborator in the partnership, Chiang Mai University’s Forest Restoration Research Unit (FORRU), provides training for the community in modern tree planting and forest monitoring techniques. USAID LEAF worked closely with Tipco, FORRU and Baan Pong Khrai to establish the Aura PES committee and the overall framework for the pilot PES scheme.
