The three-day training will focus on simple and practical methods for estimating fire emissions where data and resources are highly constrained. In particular, the regional training will build capacity of fire and land managers as well as GHG inventory officials to estimate historical emissions from fire. Specific training modules will include:
- How to estimate burned areas from remotely sensed imagery;
- How to use that data to estimate historical emissions from fire;
- How to incorporate existing ground data, when available, to improve emissions factors; and
- How and when to collect relevant ground data when historical ground data are absent or lacking.
