Lao PDR Integrated REDD+ Accounting Frameworks

Lao PDR Integrated REDD+ Accounting Frameworks

13 August 2013

With support from LEAF, the Lao Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MoNRE) held a workshop in Vientiane on National REDD+ Accounting Frameworks on August 7.  Over 50 participants from MoNRE, the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (MAF), other Government of Lao agencies, the private sector and development partners collaborated to outline the framework of how sub-national and project-level Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD+) activities would be integrated into a future national REDD+ system. A consistent mechanism to monitor and account for forests and emissions is necessary for a country to receive support through global REDD+ efforts.  This workshop is the first in a regional series aimed at sharing lessons on sub-national and national REDD+ implementation between LEAF countries.  Support for this event is part of LEAF’s broader capacity building efforts in Lao PDR and across the region.
