Reviving the Mae Sa-Kog Ma UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve
13 July 2015
Established in 1977, but long without a management plan or budget, the Mae Sa-Kog Ma UNESCO Man and Biosphere Reserve (MAB) focuses on the relationship between people and the environment. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of USAID LEAF and the Thailand Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation (DNP), the Man and Biosphere Reserve in Chiang Mai now has a management plan, undertaken after a participatory process that included awareness raising, public consultations and workshops. Furthermore, the success of the management plan has led to further collaborations between USAID LEAF and the DNP in a neighboring reserve.
